Keeping Up With the Podcast Awards

Awards can be a brilliant way for podcasters to gain exposure, be celebrated, connect with the wider industry, and grow their audiences. But how do you actually go about winning one?

Podcast Discovery’s very own Matt Deegan and Matt Hill previously co-founded the British Podcast Awards, a major event in the industry calendar. Other prestigious awards include The People’s Choice at The Podcast Awards, one of the longest-running awards voted for by fans, The Signal Awards, The Ambies, and The Audio Production Awards, alongside many others throughout the year. Even the Golden Globes, broadcast to more than 8.5 million viewers, introduced a category for podcasts for the first time this year.

So why should podcasters participate? Whether being nominated or actually taking home a trophy, awards offer a way of boosting the podcast’s visibility. Each award typically runs their own marketing, social and PR campaigns, increasing chances of being featured in best-of lists and other curated podcast coverage. They are an opportunity to reach new audiences and to connect within the industry, with other podcasters, potential guests and sponsors. Awards are a mark of quality, helping to build credibility within the industry as well as audience trust; with this kind of recognition, sponsorship deals can be easier to secure.
