Your podcast doesn’t have to be recorded in-person to look sleek, at least not anymore…
Studio costs are expensive. Guests are unpredictable. There are holidays and competing schedules. BUT, your show still needs video output to stay on top (or to even reach the top). We’ve got you covered.
The question, ‘how do I make my remotely recorded podcast look good?’ has been plaguing us for a while. There is no easy way of doing it, but we found a solution that really works – the Podcast Discovery Virtual Studio.
So what is a Virtual Studio?
The Podcast Discovery Virtual Studio is a brand new solution to the challenges of remote recording. We know that high quality video drives engagement and all video content, short or long, is a hugely important marketing touchpoint for podcasts. So simply put – the virtual studio can help you grow by providing you with an online studio experience. With the rise and interest in podcasting in general, there’s been more demand for high-quality video. Listeners no longer want to see squares of a Zoom or Riverside recording. Our studio brings you that seamless studio experience, no matter where your podcast host and guests are located.
Why did we create the Virtual Studio?
We work with all kinds of podcasts – from global shows leading the charts to indies growing niche communities – and everyone faces the issue of remote recording. We also run Podcast Rex social channels, and having earned over 63 million hits online, we know that professionally shot clips are twice as likely to go viral than those recorded remotely on your webcam. The virtual studio is our answer to figuring out a straightforward, cost-effective and, frankly, sleek solution to your remote recording woes.

How does the Virtual Studio work?
Our goal is to simplify the recording process so you can feel in control of your content. First, we focus on the quality of the video itself. We do this by providing you with easy-to-install box kits for all Virtual Studio users. These would include: cameras, lights, and a green screen. We also work with you to identify who needs this equipment and where, so we can easily set your host and guests with all necessary gear.
Then, we work with your production and contributors to set everything up. This could be positioning the cameras at the right angles so that the video edit looks like everyone speaking is in the same room, or it could be about eliminating backgrounds with our green screen – we cover all the basics and beyond with your team to get you ready for the recording.
And how do you make the Virtual Studio look ‘real’?
Post the technical set up, we then work with you on your actual ‘studio.’ We use 3D modelling software to create a complete (and branded!) room to match your podcast’s visual identity. This includes our team of video experts identifying the look and feel of your show together with you, and then using their experience of building real-life podcast studios to make sure every single detail of the studio looks believable and, well, beautiful. This also includes thinking of the angles of where the contributors are sitting, how the clips will look on different social channels and Spotify and Apple, and what kind of other branding is needed to a) teach your listeners about your show and b) make your video memorable and enticing.
All of our ‘virtual’ cameras are then aligned with real-world cameras we place in front of contributors (with considerations like height, placement and angles) to create a realistic and believable studio experience. This means that you can also use this as a solution to build a ‘fourth wall’ whereby some of your contributors could be tuning in from an in-person studio, and others could do so from a built-to-be-believed virtual studio that serves as an extension of the real thing.
Is it easy to edit and work with after setting up?
Simple answer is – yes! We work with so many different productions that we completely understand that each process is unique. We will help you to fully integrate the Virtual Studio with your existing workflow. This could be recording on Riverside or editing in Descript, we can simply configure our Virtual Studio to work with the tools you love.
Is this really different to a Zoom jpeg background?
Yes, it is. While you might only see a small portion of the background as a viewer, the expertise it takes to set up a hyper realistic background that seems believable and that most importantly, teaches your listeners about the show takes a lot of work (from 3D modelling to technical set up, and beyond). We make the whole process extremely simple for you so you don’t have to think twice about the hundreds of steps you need to take to make this work. We work with your talent to teach them about how to use this studio, like for example – where they should look when they are talking to contributor A vs. B, and then teach your team how to make the video edits look smooth and sleek too.
Everyone already knows that video makes a huge difference for podcast audiences. So don’t fall behind with poor quality video assets, and instead give your show all the tools it needs to succeed with our Virtual Studio.
